A vision for our DFL Secretary:

As your next DFL Secretary, I commit to performing the core functions of the role with excellence. I will achieve this in the following ways:

  • I pledge to distribute all SCC meeting minutes to members via email within 2 weeks of each meeting. This is part of a greater goal to increase transparency and openness in our party, and ensure that even those members who weren’t able to attend the meeting are able to understand what happened during the meeting.

  • Additionally, I will create a Google Drive repository to store those meeting minutes that are accessible to current SCC members. Currently, it is very difficult to reference past actions at previous SCC meetings - this would make it easier to remember past discussions, bring new members up to speed, or research precedent. Again, this is part of my goal to create transparency and openness in our party.

  • Clearer standards for moderation of the SCC Google Group. Right now, behavior standards, membership standards, and many other norms often feel arbitrarily applied. I will work to make sure all SCC members are aware of the requirements to participate in the SCC Google Group, follow the expected norms, and face the same repercussions for violating them. I will also institute an appeal process for members removed from the SCC Google Group, so that these decisions are not controlled solely by one person.

  • Create minutes templates and trainings for unit secretaries on effective minute taking. Offer orientation sessions after convention season for new unit secretaries who want to learn more about the DFL as a whole and their role within the party.

  • I will create and promote a Google Form for In Memoriam submissions that will be available year-round. The DFL Secretary has the important task of honoring those who have passed during the last two years with a video reel during the state convention. This relies on unit chairs sharing information about their members. There are so many administrative tasks for our OU chairs to manage around the state convention and during caucus and convention season, and it can be difficult to gather and submit this information during that time too. By having a year round form available on the DFL website, this information can be submitted at other points, making our video reel more respectful, accurate, and less of a point of stress for unit leadership.

I look forward to sharing more about my leadership abilities and what I can bring to our state party as your next DFL Secretary. I appreciate your time and curiosity, and I hope to earn your support at our Business Conference on March 29th at the Edina High School.
